“If the wise elders of the village don’t teach the children, the village idiot will certainly do so.” — African Proverb

Welcome to the 21st century, where the wise elders have gone silent, and the Village Idiots have taken over raising our youths. If you’re ready for this truth bomb, buckle up because here comes the rollercoaster.
With the rise of social media, where information spreads faster than a cat meme, our attention spans have become shorter than a TikTok video. Disinformation is at an all-time high, and the days of researching, checking your sources, and checking your facts have become as extinct as dial-up internet.
Gone are the Days Of logic, critical thinking, and plain old common sense.
In their place, we have the knee-jerk reaction to seeing a post and running away with it. Trusting anybody with an interesting headline has become the new norm. We’re now in an era of illogical, emotionally biased thinking ruled by the foolish.
We live in a time where we record instead of react, react before we understand, and chase social media fame instead of understanding the situation in front of us. After all, why would the children listen to the wise village elders when the Village Idiots live better than the elders?
The Modern Mantra:
Why study when all it takes is one viral reel to make me famous?
Growing up three decades ago, elders were our guides, offering sage advice like:
– “Stay off the grass.”
– “The streetlights are on; why aren’t you home?”
– “Are you supposed to be outside when your parents aren’t home?”
Now, if an elder dares utter those words, children roll their eyes, and parents assume the elder has a problem with their parenting. And suddenly, it’s a real problem.
So, dear reader, as we navigate this crazy digital landscape, let’s not forget the wisdom of our elders. Let’s blend the old with the new and try not to let the Village Idiots have the final say. After all, a little common sense goes a long way.
