Wrapping Up the Year: Turning Reflections into Resolutions

It’s wild how my views of the New Year have changed. In the past, I wanted more money, better vacations, or hoped this was the year I would find “the one.” I used to think about what I wanted and believe my resolutions were how to manifest my goals. Most of the time, these resolutions would be over before some people’s Christmas trees came down.

I am committed to change this year and noticed that reflection was the key. Anyone on social media has probably seen people posting their “wraps” for the year on platforms like Spotify, Facebook, and even Twitch. Looking at my different highlights of the year allowed me a moment of self-reflection, which allowed me to come up with better resolutions.

Nobody can get ahead without self-evaluation. Reflection can be a straightforward method, but it takes being honest with yourself. In my case, next year, I want to be a better content creator and grow my Twitch channel. So, I will start by being honest about what I did right and wrong this year. I begin by reversing the roles—I’m not the creator but a person looking to follow or subscribe to a Twitch channel. As a consumer, what would make me choose this creator?

On Twitch, Crazy Funny Gaming (CFG) has been around for a while, but I can tell 2024 was when they became a serious streamer. CFG has one of the best channel trailers I have seen. It’s funny and engaging; you can tell he has a big personality. Looking back at some of his clips, he uses a face cam, has a nice-quality mic and great overlays, and continually engages his audience.

However, something isn’t adding up because CFG only has around 200 followers. Let’s check his schedule. Oh, that’s a major red flag—he doesn’t have a schedule posted. I don’t want to write him off yet; let’s check the last time he streamed. CFG hasn’t streamed in over two weeks. That’s a deal-breaker. I refuse to follow someone who isn’t committed to streaming.

By reversing the roles, I can see why I wouldn’t follow a streamer of my quality. So, my New Year’s Resolution or Goals become clearer. In 2025, I want to become a better Twitch streamer. I will post and follow a set schedule and become more consistent with streaming. By reflecting, I have looked at my strengths, identified my weaknesses, and given myself something to work towards.

You can’t make real change without proper self-reflection. If you want to get in better shape and are considering hiring a trainer, put yourself in the trainer’s role. Would you like to work with someone with your current dedication and consistency level? Simple reflection can lead to real solutions. You identify your shortcomings and give yourself a goal to work towards.

It works in every aspect of your life—relationships, careers, savings, even if your goal is to be more social. Remember, the key is honest reflection. Don’t say, “Man, I would hire myself because I’m a hard worker,” when you know you show up late every day, push deadlines to the limit, and only do enough not to get fired.

One essential thing to remember about self-reflection is that it’s only about you. **Please don’t compare yourself to others.**

As we wrap up this year, remember that next year can be yours. Before you come up with the same standard resolutions, take the time to reflect. Your reflections will transform into goals, and with your goals, you can create a solid plan. Here’s to a year of genuine growth and reaching new heights!
